Many women complain of irregular periods or oligomenorrhea. The periods are supposed to be regular if they occur in an interval of 28 days a month skipping periods. However, each woman's menstrual cycle is different, depending on the nature of hormones, and the interval can vary from woman to woman skipping periods. The best way to know if a woman has regular periods is to count the number of days from one period to another, and keep track of if the number of days corresponding to the interval between subsequent periods skipping periods. 9. Menopause may begin with irregular periods. This is because during this time, the female hormone levels begin to fall.

10. Polycystic ovary syndrome can create much interruption in the process of ovulation, which also causes irregular periods.

11. Inflammatory bowel disease can also lead to oligomenorrhea.
